The new TAFE Portal – MyTAFE!
What is MyTAFE?
The new TAFE portal, or MyTAFE, is designed to support all TAFE staff to access resources, services and systems relevant to them. It will provide to TAFE teachers a single, online point of access to the range of Training Package and Accredited Course information and related resources required to help them prepare for and deliver training and assessment services for customers.
How is MyTAFE different to the current DET Portal?
The MyTAFE Portal will differ from the current DET Portal in a number of ways.
Firstly, it is designed to give access to those resources and applications that are relevant to TAFE only.
Secondly, future releases of MyTAFE will allow more customisable and personalisation features currently not existing with the DET Portal. A new repository will also support the management of resources. There will also be more support for teachers to customise and contextualise national qualifications. In the first release of MyTAFE staff will still be able to access to all the resources and applications currently available in the DET Portal.
What are the benefits of MyTAFE?
The new Portal will provide many benefits to TAFE NSW, which will become apparent over time. There will be an improved “time to market” for Institute training products. A faster, smarter service will be available to support Institutes in responding to industry needs. The TAFE Education Support Portfolio will develop and deploy new Training Package resources through the new repository. Teachers will also be better supported in meeting customisation, contextualisation and flexible delivery requirements. Better support for teachers in meeting AQTF compliance requirements will also be apparent.
Who was consulted in the development?
MyTAFE was designed with the consultation of TAFE NSW. A Teachers Reference Group, and an IT Reference, were consulted widely in all aspects of the design and content of the site. The TAFE Educational Support (TES) Portfolio Resource Group was consulted in issues regarding the content management of resources on the new repository.
What are some features of MyTAFE?
Some additional features of the Portal include;
- Customisation and personalisation by staff
- A superior search facility, facilitating easy access to internal and external resources and services
- Accessibility between Institutes
- Support for professional development
- Guidelines for navigating the site and uploading resources have also been developed.
What are the future development plans of MyTAFE?
The MyTAFE Portal will be released in phases. Subsequent phases will provide improvements such as more customisable features, access to more resources and systems, and improved design. Improvements will be based on feedback from all stakeholders. Feedback mechanisms will be instigated to ensure that all staff have a say in how MyTAFE can work for them.
