February Headlines

Update: February 2009

I have mixed feelings writing this newsletter.  I’ve resigned from TAFE NSW and my last day is 20 February 2009.  I’m excited about new ventures in the future and yet sad to leave the wonderful people I have worked with over the years – both internal and external to the organisation.

The personal change for myself also coincides with other changes to our unit.  We are no longer ICVET (International Centre for Vocational Education and Training).  We have transitioned to a new portfolio known as Training and Education Support.  Our new unit within that portfolio responds to the current and emerging priorities in workforce development.  We are now the TAFE Workforce Development Unit and will be operating from Sydney Institute, Ultimo.

Our work has been exciting this year.  A special focus has been the TAFE Building our Future – Leadership Program that is being conducted in partnership with Macquarie Graduate School of Management.  The program focuses on 4 key capabilities for future senior executive leaders in TAFE NSW.  Currently there are 18 people in the program.

We continue to support the Capability Development Initiative within the TAFE Workforce Development Guarantee through the development of skill sets and guidelines for the Initiative.

So on a final farewell note, I thank you all for the support and assistance you have given me over the years.  I’ve had a wonderful career in NSW TAFE and have been privileged to work with teachers and managers in supporting innovation and new practice.
