Support your COGs units with flipcharts for use on interactive whiteboards (IWBs).

The 'Me' flipchart supports Early Stage 1 Connected Outcomes Group B unit which develops an understanding of who we are by exploring what we have in common with others and what is unique. View the teacher notes (.doc kB) or download the flipchart to use in your class.

The ‘Our place’ flipchart supports Early Stage 1 Connected Outcomes Group A unit, which explores natural and built environments and how they need to be safe, cared for, appreciated and respected. View the teacher notes (.doc kB) or download the flipchart to use in your class.

I have fun with faces

Songs and actions

In Song and actions young children sing a song about facial features as they follow the animated actions. Children sing and point to their own facial features as well as those on screen, using a finger and then the computer mouse. The activity is suitable for children prior to school, either at home or in early childhood settings. Support notes outline further hands-on, play-based activities to extend children's learning.

Create a face

In Create a face children rollover a blank face with the mouse, see facial features and click to lock them in place, with audio support. They drag and drop features onto a face. Next, they read and match word labels for features on a face. The activity is interactive and suitable for children prior to school, either at home or in early childhood settings and for Early Stage 1 students at school. 'Support notes' has good ideas for further hands-on, play-based activities to extend children's learning.

Read a story

In Read a story young children listen and follow the text as the online book 'Faces' is read. Children may choose to read the story without audio support. An 'easy read' version of 'Faces' is accessible from the back cover. Click 'Support notes' on the splash page for further links, hands-on and play-based activities to extend children's learning. The activity is suitable for children prior to school, either at home or in early childhood settings and for Early Stage 1 students at school.

Jigsaws

In Jigsaws young children select 9, 12 or 16 piece jigsaws from various faces, including photographs of children and artworks. The jigsaws are suitable for children prior to school, either at home or in early childhood settings and for Early Stage 1 students at school. Support notes outline further hands-on, play-based activities to extend children's learning and provide links to more online jigsaws.

Using Maths Tracks

Using Maths Tracks is a series of explicit teaching units for students in Early Stage 1, Stage 1 and Stage 3. The units are based on the outcomes from the NSW Board of Studies 2002 Mathematics K-6 syllabus, and use the 2004 Rigby/Harcourt series Maths Tracks. Each unit contains notes for the teacher, notes for a supervising adult and activities, including assessment activities, for the student. The units are very suitable for flexible one-to-one teaching and for students learning in isolation or in a distance education context.

Find Using Maths Tracks resources for Early Stage 1.
