Delivering Digital Citizenship

Planning your course

In this module you will plan a staff or parent-teacher information session and complete one of three activities. The activity you choose will depend on your role in your school's program.

You should take about two hours to complete this part of the course.

Ways to implement the Digital Citizenship program include:

  • one teacher implementing the whole program. For example, it may be part of the school's Welfare or RFF program.

  • multiple teachers implementing the program concurrently.

  • integration into the school's regular Teaching and Learning programs.

In this module, you should complete both activity 1 and activity 2.

Plan a staff or parent-teacher information session using the provided material. View the Digital Citizenship home page and explore the teacher resources found in both the Primary and Secondary sections of the site. Download the slideshow and flyer, which already contain information about the Digital Citizenship course. Add information regarding your school's implementation of the project and make other changes as required. For further information for parents, see SchoolAtoZ, the NSW Department of Education and Communities' online magazine for parents.

Your evidence for completion of this part of the course will be your slideshow and flyer, customised for your own school.

Complete either task A or B or C depending on your school's mode of implementation.

Task A: School planner is most suitable for teachers who are responsible for implementing or coordinating the whole program.

Use the mapping aid (.xls 408kB) to help you complete an implementation plan. A planning template (.docx 65kB) is provided. If you use the planning template, add, delete, rename or adjust the size of columns and rows to customise the planner for your own school.

Task B: Resource is most suitable for teachers in schools where multiple teachers are implementing the program concurrently across Key Learning Areas (KLAs) or classes. Pre-service teachers should complete this task which requires the development of an additional teaching resource.

Identify which faculties/teachers should participate and consider how resources should be allocated. For your own section develop an additional resource to supplement the digital citizenship lessons. For example you may want to create a slideshow, worksheet, laptop wrap, SMART notebook file, podcast etc. The Tools4U and UCreate series provide help with resource creation.

Task C: Teaching and learning program is most suitable for teachers in schools where the Digital Citizenship program is integrated into the school’s regular Teaching and Learning programs across the school year.

Identify who will teach each aspect of the Digital Citizenship course. For the parts of the course you are delivering, modify your existing teaching and learning program to incorporate the appropriate learning.
